Nosso cérebro, desde o momento em que nascemos, possui uma impressionante capacidade de adaptação, conhecida como plasticidade cerebral. Esta adaptabilidade permite que formemos novas conexões neurais, moldando nossa percepção e comportamento com base nas experiências que vivenciamos. Após o nascimento, lembrando que eventos intra-uterinos também podem ser marcantes, como a exposição a álcool ou drogas, acumulamos experiencias únicas e que criarão, principalmente, via plasticidade e epigenética, um modelo do mundo, impregnado no nosso cérebro. Esse modelo será, para sempre, o determinante de nossas crenças, condutas e comportamentos. Sempre no sentido de termos a melhor chance de sobrevivência no próximo minuto. Claro, o modelo muda ao longo da vida.

Então fico pensando no futuro do nosso povo, levando em conta que existe um inconsciente coletivo, que decorre do modelo que cada um de nós tem. No cenário brasileiro, onde a impunidade e a corrupção são fenômenos quase estruturais, nossa mente aprende a operar dentro dessas realidades.

Quando testemunhamos um sistema onde a justiça favorece os abastados e pune desproporcionalmente os menos afortunados, nosso cérebro capta esses padrões. Ele aprende que, em certos contextos, a transgressão pode ser recompensada, especialmente se você estiver alinhado com aqueles que detêm poder. A neurociência revela que nosso aprendizado é influenciado por observação e experiência; assim, se a justiça é percebida como falha, o cérebro se adapta para sobreviver, onde a ética pode se tornar maleável em nome da autoproteção ou do avanço pessoal.

A impunidade não afeta apenas o indivíduo; ela se infiltra no inconsciente coletivo, um conceito de Carl Jung que fala de uma camada da psique compartilhada pela humanidade, onde se acumulam arquétipos e experiências culturais. No Brasil, a corrupção e a injustiça se tornam parte desse inconsciente, moldando a forma como a sociedade pensa, sente e age coletivamente. Agentes públicos remunerados como se fossem lordes, ostentando poder e riqueza, ativos nas mídias sociais como se fossem imperadores. Soberbos, inquestionáveis. Pagos com dinheiro dos impostos altíssimos que o Estado nos impõe. É o império das castas.

A legalização de práticas antes condenadas, como o jogo desenfreado, a exposição infantil as propagandas que trivializam o vício, atos de intensa sexualidade mostrados para crianças, bandidos libertados por artifícios legais, tudo isso ensina ao cérebro coletivo que a moralidade pode ser flexível.

O chefe do crime pode viver entre nós, intocável e indistinguível, tornando-se um aspecto quase normal do nosso dia a dia, refletido no nosso inconsciente como uma realidade aceitável.

A plasticidade cerebral nos faz ajustar o comportamento para sobreviver em um ambiente onde a crítica pode ser perigosa, e a sobrevivência pode exigir conformidade ou silêncio.

E, como a regra é termos escolas de padrões medíocres, não podemos confiar na educação como lenitivo. O brasileiro médio das próximas décadas será deplorável. Não terá cultura, será viciado em jogos de todos os tipos, aceitará a ilegalidade e a contravenção com naturalidade, votará, como sempre, encabrestado, agora pelo poder das mídias. Aliás, repenso, esse já é o brasileiro médio.

Para quebrar este ciclo vicioso, é vital entender como nosso cérebro aprende e se adapta. Devemos promover mudanças que não só reformem as instituições, mas que também transformem o que está enraizado em nosso inconsciente coletivo. A luta por transparência, integridade e justiça deve ser contínua, para que as gerações futuras não herdem um legado de impunidade, mas sim uma cultura de responsabilidade e igualdade. Caso contrário, persistiremos em uma espiral onde a única justiça sem perdão é para pobres ou inimigos dos poderosos de plantão.

Our Plastic Brain and Its Consequences

Our brain, from the moment we are born, possesses an impressive ability to adapt, known as cerebral plasticity. This adaptability allows us to form new neural connections, shaping our perception and behavior based on the experiences we encounter. Even before birth, events such as exposure to alcohol or drugs can be significant, influencing, through plasticity and epigenetics, the world model that gets imprinted on our brain. This model will forever determine our beliefs, conduct, and behaviors, always with the aim of ensuring the best chance of survival in the next minute. Of course, the model changes throughout life.

So, I think about the future of our people, considering there is a collective unconscious, stemming from the model each one of us carries. In the Brazilian scenario, where impunity and corruption are nearly structural phenomena, our minds learn to operate within these realities.

When we witness a system where justice favors the wealthy and disproportionately punishes the less fortunate, our brains grasp these patterns. They learn that, in certain contexts, transgression can be rewarded, especially if you’re aligned with those in power. Neuroscience shows that our learning is influenced by observation and experience; thus, if justice is perceived as flawed, the brain adapts to survive, where ethics can become malleable for self-protection or personal advancement.

Impunity doesn’t just affect the individual; it infiltrates the collective unconscious, a concept from Carl Jung that speaks of a layer of the psyche shared by humanity, where archetypes and cultural experiences accumulate. In Brazil, corruption and injustice become part of this unconscious, shaping how society collectively thinks, feels, and acts. Public officials, paid as if they were lords, flaunting power and wealth, active on social media as if they were emperors. Arrogant, unquestionable. Paid with the high taxes the State imposes on us. It’s the empire of castes.

The legalization of previously condemned practices, like rampant gambling, the exposure of children to ads that trivialize addiction, acts of intense sexuality shown to kids, criminals set free by legal technicalities, all this teaches the collective brain that morality can be flexible. The crime boss can live among us, untouchable and indistinguishable, becoming an almost normal aspect of our daily life, reflected in our unconscious as an acceptable reality.

Brain plasticity makes us adjust our behavior to survive in an environment where criticism can be dangerous, and survival might require conformity or silence.

And, as the rule is to have schools of mediocre standards, we cannot rely on education as a remedy. The average Brazilian of the coming decades will be deplorable. They will lack culture, be addicted to all sorts of games, accept illegality and misconduct naturally, vote, as always, controlled, now by the power of media. Actually, I rethink this; this is already the average Brazilian.

To break this vicious cycle, it’s crucial to understand how our brain learns and adapts. We must promote changes that not only reform institutions but also transform what’s rooted in our collective unconscious. The fight for transparency, integrity, and justice must be continuous, so future generations do not inherit a legacy of impunity but rather a culture of responsibility and equality. Otherwise, we will persist in a spiral where the only unforgiving justice is for the poor or enemies of the powerful on duty.
